Earlier we used to hear news, In travel companies a staff was sacked on the pretext of stealing the data, these cases used to exist before internet age. In present world revolving around technology be it Wifi, smart phones, AI, Big Data and lots of other terminologies, how fancy they may sound but one thing is sure, your data is not secured at all. With new inventions being introduced with each passing day, more incidents of data theft are being reported worldwide. Recently one of the Indian traveler on a trip to location outside India had to lose credit card details for misuse, not by flashing his card or sharing card details, but just by talking to a gentleman for few minutes and without taking out his/her wallet. That’s how the technology is developing and taking new routes. These are the cases of identity theft. Although this article is not about cyber data theft, this is more about travel business and data theft except those without internet. Yes you guessed it right, it’s about the data stealing through your personal relations.

Travel Business as far as B2C domain is concerned it’s all about your personal relations and contacts which pass on you the required business. During our interactions and personal discussions with travel companies, no one is ready to share their client details with even their close contacts and that’s quite obvious for business reasons, but still in some cases this data may be taken away. It’s a smart service, believe me with some benefits to be portrayed in front of your eyes, might save some money out of your pocket but can be pretty dangerous in long run. Lets learn it how it takes place.

In travel business, people are being approached by service providers be it any domain, for inviting their clients for a networking dinner or a function around that format, you are guaranteed an exclusivity for that event on the pretext of not collaborating with your competitors and it should get you more value against your client credibility. Although the party approaching you is not your immediate competition but your close contacts are shared if you join hands with such organizers. We have done some research around this subject by interacting with some key players in and around the industry. Some of the persons claimed that normally in such cases they tend to act smart and try to share contacts of clients who are not doing business transaction with them but their competition. Smart move for sure but have you ever thought, the same organization may approach your competition some time in future and they also make the smart move like yours. Beneficiary shall get whole set of data in that market.

And what shall we lose:

1. Benefits which are proposed to your company being a mediator, can be offered directly to the end user

2. We see lot of hue and cry in market claiming B2B business is no more B2B, it’s one of the after effects

3. Hidden Files of business are automatically revealed

4. Contacts are used for personal benefits and may be such line of business which may act as a future competition.

So the suggestion here would be to act smart and stay away from such tempting offers and shell out some money to keep the connect going. Stay safe and Happy Business…
